Dr. Alexis Perlmutter is a board-certified Dermatologist and Pediatrician specializing in comprehensive adult, pediatric, and surgical dermatology. With a deep passion for dermatological care, she provides treatment for patients of all ages, from infants to adults, with a focus on pediatric dermatology. Dr. Perlmutter is the sole Pediatric Dermatologist in the Capital Region, specializing in infant and pediatric dermatologic conditions such as vascular birthmarks such as infantile hemangiomas, congenital lesions, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and ichthyosis vulgaris.

Dr. Perlmutter has been based in the Capital Region since 2016.  Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Perlmutter pursued her education at the University of Virginia, where she graduated with honors from the national Phi Beta Kappa society. She furthered her studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, obtaining a Master’s degree in Education, before earning her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine.  In Rochester, she graduated at the top of her class, exemplified by her induction into the national medical student honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.  Dr. Perlmutter completed residencies in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, and Dermatology at Geisinger Health Center.

She maintains dual board certifications and was honored with a mentorship award from the Society of Pediatric Dermatology, leading to an apprenticeship at CHOP's Pediatric Dermatology department, where she worked alongside world renowned pediatric dermatologists to gain insights in treating acute inpatient and outpatient pediatric dermatologic diseases.

Dr. Perlmutter is passionate about education, both in teaching patients about their skin conditions for better treatment outcomes and in mentoring and instructing medical students and residents. She holds a Dermatology Instructor position at Albany Medical Center. Her academic contributions include numerous peer-reviewed dermatology papers and chapters in essential pediatric dermatology textbooks, such as Harper’s Textbook of Pediatric Dermatology.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Perlmutter enjoys travel, language (fostered by years living in Asia), outdoor activities like hiking and tennis, music, and most of all, her family. She loves spending time with her husband, ophthalmologist Dr. David Perlmutter, and their children Henry, Anne, and Catherine.
